ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Program Overview

The ITV Orbit Program will offer a comprehensive introduction and unprecedented exposure into the day-to-day operations of a leading television studio. The program is designed to provide “Orbiters” with an understanding of how ITV functions as a global business in the ever-changing world of television. Orbiters will rotate through departments within the organization including, but not limited to, scripted and unscripted Development, Production Management, Programming, Casting, Finance, Business and Legal Affairs, and Global Partnerships.

The ITV Orbit Program is a six-month full time position based out of one of the following U.S. offices:

ITV America

ITV America is behind some of the biggest brands on American television in unscripted programming. It is the largest independent unscripted producer in the US, through its successful production labels producing thousands of hours of successful programming across multiple broadcast and cable networks as well as digital and premium streamers. It includes ITV Entertainment, High Noon Entertainment, Thinkfactory Media, Leftfield Pictures, Sirens Media, and Good Caper Content. ITV America’s content includes series such as QUEER EYE, HELL’S KITCHEN, LOVE ISLAND, FIXER UPPER, PAWN STARS, THE FIRST 48, ALONE, and REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY.

ITV Studios America TM

ITV Studios America is ITV Studios’ LA-based U.S. independent scripted television operation. The studio develops and produces scripted programming, based on original ideas or established IP, for global exploitation across all platforms, and has been building a growing portfolio of projects in development and production with multiple broadcast and cable networks and OTT services. ITV Studios America continues to expand its creative footprint and production pipeline under its “group” operational structure with strategic investments in creative “labels”: Tomorrow Studios (a partnership with Marty Adelstein), Work Friends (a partnership between Nick Weidenfeld and Tomorrow Studios), and Bedrock Entertainment (a partnership with Dan Sackheim and Tony To). ITV Studios’ scripted TV production output in North America currently includes PHYSICAL, ONE PIECE and SNOWPIERCER from Tomorrow Studios, TEN YEAR OLD TOM from Work Friends and FRANKLIN (working title) from ITV Studios America.

DEPARTMENT ROTATION

To maximize the Orbit experience, each Orbiter will be assigned a customized rotation specifically designed to meet their professional interests, plus meetings with other department leaders to facilitate an overall understanding of the television business. This structure ensures all Orbiters will complete the program with a comprehensive understanding of producing a television show and gain experience in many areas within the business.

Business & Legal Affairs

Business & Legal Affairs touches all aspects of scripted and unscripted production, from deal-making and development through production, exhibition, and ancillary exploitation. Orbiters will join the team and assist with diligence; rights management; structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of agreements such as talent deals, production services agreements and co-production agreements; general in-house corporate agreements; compliance risk and safety; employment and labor issues; policy and protocol creation; crisis management; and litigation.

Business Strategy & Management

While orbiting though this business-focused department, the Orbiter will get a high-level view of the company’s strategic vision for both the scripted and unscripted business. An Orbiter will gain insight into value creation, both organically (through new business models and revenue streams) and externally (through strategic partnerships and M&A deals) for the unscripted division as well as day-to-day operations and strategic growth of the US scripted television business.  Individuals will learn about the inner workings of a production company, including the business value chain and how that is impacted by the current economic conditions and marketplace.  Business Development is tasked with identifying and sourcing show-specific revenue generating opportunities and commercial deals including, brand integrations, trade-outs, merchandise and licensing deals, experiential events and digital opportunities related to both the unscripted and scripted divisions of ITV in the U.S.

Casting

The Casting team is responsible for series and development casting across all of ITV America’s unscripted production labels.  From host casting, to ensemble casting, to contestant casting for a wide variety of networks and streaming platforms, the casting team is one of the most integral parts of the pre-production process and series greenlights are often contingent on a great cast. The Casting team works closely with Development, Legal, Business Affairs and Production management teams to ensure that each project is set up for successs. Orbiters will be immersed in the casting process as they work side-by-side with the casting team on series and development for ITV America’s unscripted shows.

Development

The scripted and unscripted development teams are responsible for ideating new concepts and adapting global formats for the U.S. market. Orbiters will become familiar with every aspect of development from ideation to pitching, scripting, casting and talent outreach as well as business and legal affairs. Development offers participation in TV sales from inception to execution in a full-balanced way. Orbiters will be exposed to all aspects of television development; from creative brainstorming and research, to casting, producing sales materials (including sizzle tapes and writing decks/treatments) and pitching concepts and materials to networks.

Gearshop

The Gearshop team is the equipment rental division of ITV America that coordinates with the production management and field teams to ensure the proper gear is shipped to shoot locations for unscripted projects . Duties include prepping, maintaining, and tracking the cameras, audio, and lighting used in the field. Orbiters will work side by side with shop technicians to get hands-on experience with some of the industry’s leading production equipment, learning the language of the technical world to better understand the use of gear as tools to achieve a creative vision.

Global Partnerships

ITV Studios Global Partnerships licenses content (dramas, unscripted series, documentaries etc) onto TV networks and streaming platforms across U.S., Canada and Latin America. The Global Partnerships team is responsible for distributing global unscripted formats such as Hell’s Kitchen and Love Island, leveraging their relationships with all platforms including Amazon, BritBox, Netflix, Roku, Hulu, AMC, HBO etc. Orbiters will get first-hand knowledge of the sales process for ITV’s content catalog including structure of sales agreements, how distribution opportunities are identified, sales forecasting, what makes a strong account/client relationship as well as an understanding of the promotional route to market for content.

Finance

The Finance department provides strategic and day-to-day support for all aspects of budgeting, operations, cash management, planning and accounting for the U.S. scripted and unscripted businesses. Orbiters will join the team as it governs and oversees all financial activities from a corporate and production standpoint, managing the financial aspects of producing shows from pre-production through production, and post-production.

Information Technology

While orbiting through the IT Department, Orbiters will become familiar with various technology functions like workplace technology, networking, infrastructure, IT policies, technology strategy etc. Orbiters will shadow the IT team in resolving technical incidents and gain technical knowledge in the process, Orbiters will also learn the required soft skills to thrive in a corporate environment.

Music

The Music department’s objective is to facilitate the music needs of the unscripted business by negotiating the best possible options for licensed songs, composed scores and production music libraries, while keeping a keen focus on avoiding any legal risks or unexpected costs. In addition to working with specific shows, the Music team also maintains ITV’s music and sound effects search engine, which is used by hundreds of editors and producers across ITV America’s productions. Orbiters will have the opportunity to learn and observe the creative, business, legal, and operational functions of the music department.

Operations

The Operations Department is responsible for the management, organization, and maintenance of the office space, onsite production studio, and other facilities. Collaborating with every other department, this operations team coordinates clearing all employees and visitors for entry while ensuring each facility is equipped to meet the needs of whatever project may need to utilize them. The Operations team is also responsible for supporting the company’s in-house events and sustainability initiatives. Orbiters who join operations will have an opportunity to be involved in everything that happens on-site in each office location.

People & Payroll

The People team touches every aspect of the employee experience, from recruitment, onboarding, benefits, compensation, training and development, and off boarding.  They are the “go to” team for all employee questions. The Payroll team processes all employee pay across over three hundred corporate staff and nearly eight hundred production staff.  Orbiters will shadow the team to understand the complexities of human resources within one territory of a publicly traded global company.

Production Management

Production Management (PM) is at the center of all productions supporting the ITV America unscripted side of the U.S. business. PM helps all departments achieve the balance between their creative vision and the financial realities of each project through innovation and creative problem solving. The PM teams simultaneously serves as strategists, negotiators, facilitators, problem solvers and go-betweens with the networks and streamers and is the hub to all aspects of production, bridging the gap between the creative teams and back-of-house functions such as Finance, Rights and Clearances, Casting, and Post-Production. Orbiters will be a part of the day-to-day production operations and assist the PM teams with their show-specific initiatives and goals.

Post Production

The Post Production Department (comprising Post Management, Post Technology and Music) work together, and with all other departments to deliver all of ITV America’s unscripted content for air. The Post Management team is the gatekeeper of the post process; they hire and manage all of the editorial teams (Editors, Assistant Editors etc.), organize and manage all of the media and coordinate with Executive Producers and production teams to make sure they are supported in their creative process. Orbiters will be able to see a show from beginning to end starting with editing for development and casting and then moving to current series offline editing all the way through online and delivery to networks. Orbiters will be able to sit in and be a part of the planning, execution and the problem-solving that happens on a daily basis. Orbiters will also learn what it takes to support a hybrid post production workflow from a technical and logistical standpoint. They will see how the Post Tech team works with Post Management and IT to support the largest unscripted production company in the U.S.

Programming

The Programming team supports all of the unscripted departments from Development and Casting to Production and Post-Production. The Programming Execs help to guide the show creatively, troubleshoot and look ahead in order to prioritize the smooth running of the shows alongside our talented colleagues.  They are also responsible for communicating with ITV’s network partners and the unscripted labels across the company. Orbiters will be immersed in all aspects of the creative TV making process starting with a new development deck, then extrapolate how we would produce a show; from paper to the screen including budgeting, creative meetings, staffing, and editorial post-production. We will also engage on what makes a hit show in all different genres of reality TV, how the industry is trending and what our overall philosophies are as producers.

Rights & Clearances

The Rights & Clearances department (R&C) is responsible for working alongside our vast slate of unscripted series from pre-production through to post-production. R&C is responsible for ensuring that the visual/audio materials presented in the program are properly licensed and/or cleared and that the people appearing in the programs have signed the appropriate releases. They are also responsible for gathering and completing all Network deliverable content to our production partners such as Netflix, Hulu, ABC, FOX, A&E Networks etc.

QUALIFICATIONS, SALARY, & BENEFITS

Qualifications

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of work experience. A strong desire to work in the Entertainment industry is a plus.

Salary

Orbiters will be paid $18.00/hr and the position will be full-time for six-months.
